La Tuilerie is where we started a few years ago on
this big project! The building was built in about 1630 and served as
the home of the tile and brick makers, as well as a small farm. The
tile and brick ovens were abandoned in October 1914, when the young
French workers were conscripted to enter the Great War. They never came
back; and the ovens fell into 85 years of abandon and disappearance
behind dirt, trees and rubble. Then, one day, we started to dig! Let
us show you what we found, including a vaulted wine cellar, which lay
silently under a major portion of this house. Great in the summer, because
the temperature never goes above 12 degrees centigrade.
The house has four, double bedrooms and three baths. On the mezzanine
level of one of the bedrooms, there are two children's beds. The rooms
are spacious and bright. We can put infants' cots into any of these
double bedrooms. The kitchen is modern and completely equipped, with
double fridge and freeze, washer, dryer, dishwasher. We have installed
cable TV and computer access, as well as two full fireplaces, including
one between the kitchen and the dining room, plus terraces and a barbeque
for outside living. Great for a large family or for a multi-family reunion.
